How Did It All Begin?
In the mid 2010’s, founder and CEO Christopher Knop researched and experimented with biomass burial on private property he owns. Chris was amazed that the work of fixing the climate could be done, in part, by hand. After a few months, it was clear that the clays were holding in the carbon in the biomass.
By 2019, Chris began meeting with timber management companies and forest owners advocating for biomass burial. Also in 2019, Chris set up the company, and reached out to Dr. Ning Zeng, which was the beginning of many conversations about the method and the beginning of a friendship. In 2020, the company developed a wood vault design and set suitable geotechnical conditions for wood vaulting.
In 2021, the company purchased two tracts of land where biomass waste is abundant. Burial operations began with Puro.earth approval in 2022, and in 2023, commercial scale deliveries of CORCs began.
